Elephant Love

Over at Journaling Junkie the challenge is to create a layout about a favorite childhood toy. Kudos to Joanne Rasmussen for thinking of this challenge! Have been wanting to document Raya's love for elephants and this is a great opportunity to do so. I unearthed the elephant Basic Grey papers that I bought almost 2 years ago which I really planned to use for such a layout. So happy I finally made this.

Title: Elephant Love

Materials: DCWV cardstock, Basic Grey papers, DCWV heart metal, Prima flowers, AMM brads, Others: ricrac, Heart brad, Rub Ons, Jenny Bowlin Journaling paper, Sizzlits Fruit Smoothie

Journaling: I can't really recall when or how it started. I think you were about two years old when we noticed your preference for elephants. And through the years, you have made quite a collection for yourself. Here you are with four of your favorites: Elle, Dumbo, Zoom and Lumpy. You are such a cutie! We love you very much! JULY 2008

Just Keep On Swimming

This is a layout based on a PageMap of Becky Fleck. I love Becky's sketches! After my scrapping hiatus last year, Becky's sketches helped me get my groove back. :-)

Title: Just Keep On Swimming

Journaling: To my dearest Nadine, Raya and Alyssa, When the going gets tough and the challenges seem too hard to handle, remember to just keep on swimming the waters of life. Daddy and I will always be here for all of you. We love you very much! Love, Mommy

Waiting Game

My friend Dinah is Guest DT of Back Porch Memories for the month of July and her challenge is to create a layout using only paper. According to Dinah, "Everything must be made from paper including your title, embellishments, journaling sheet, etc. You can do whatever technique you want with the papers. Be creative – cut it (using scissors, dies, coluzzle, or a craft knife is fine), tear it, punch it, edge it, or ink it!"

What a great challenge! Out came my punchers and Sizzix dies. I created a lacy border using my Carl decorative puncher. I cut the flowers from the PP and stacked die cut flowers for my accent. I also cut out words from the SEI paper. And here is my layout:

TITLE: Waiting Game

Materials: Chatterbox, Provocraft, SEI and We R Memory Keepers papers, Fun Serif Sizzlits, Staedler Pen, Sizzix Flower dies, Carl Flower Puncher and Decorative Edge Puncher, McGill Tab Punch, EK Success Photo Corner Puncher.

Journaling: To say that I am excited to have this baby is an understatement. I feel like a first time mom again, eager for the stork to finally arrive. Yes, it is proving to be a waiting game every time my 3rd trimester comes.

Check out and scroll down the Design Team pictures. Still can't believe it. But it sure makes me grin from ear to ear. :-) Thanks Stefanie!

Remember This

Here's a layout I made a few months back. Still have a few preggy pictures to scrap. Hope I can find time to do it soon. It has almost been a year already. :-)

Materials: Cardstock - Die Cuts With a View, Patterned Paper - Chatterbox and Scenic Ruote (journaling paper), Flowers - Prima, Puncher - McGill Tab Punch, Alphabet - Fruit Smoothie Sizzlits on foam, Stickers - American Crafts, Pen - Staedler, Others - brads and rickrak

Journaling: maybe. just maybe. 3 is our magic number. and this is my last pregnancy... then i'd like to remember everything about it --- every push, every kick, every roll... how it feels to have a being inside me... how fulfilling every movement is. i'd like to remember how blessed i am to experience this 3 times. i'd like to remember everything about it.

I punched letters using my Sizzix die cutting machine on foam to create my own thickers. I'm so glad I got the Fruit Smoothie font. Love it!

Always Remember

Did this layout for a sketch challenge but wasn't able to take a picture and upload right away. No matter. I'm glad I was able to finish scrapping this picture that has been sitting on my desk for months already.

Materials: American Crafts papers, DCWV paper, Basic Grey rub ons, Prima flowers, AMM brads, Creative Memories circle and wave cutter, We R Memory Keepers chipboard, Joann letter brads, Staedler pen, Colorbox ink, Others: measuring tape ribbon, mini letter stamps

Journaling: Raya, It warmed my heart to hear you say this to Alyssa one night. You see, I was kinda worried about how you'd react to Alyssa's birth. You were, after all, the youngest of the family for 3 years and 10 months. I guess I didn't have to worry much since you've shown that having Alyssa is the most natural thing in the world. I love you so much, Raya. You will always be my baby. Love, Mommy

Affirmed

I pride myself in being a simple scrapper. With three kids in tow all the time (and one still a baby!) I barely have enough time for myself, much less to scrap! I scrap because I want to remember how things are. I want to look back and see how I felt at that particular time. I guess that's why my layouts are usually heavy with journaling. I've joined contests and challenges but I've never really won any of them. I think because sometimes my layouts can be very simple. Does it bother me? No. I join for the heck of it; because it forces me to scrap; it allows me to be creative on my own. If I win, then great. It's the icing on the cake. I'm just happy that I was able to create something and leave a part of me in the process.

So when I stumbled into this comment and this comment (scroll down to see it) in the Simple Scrapbooks Gallery on my layouts, it really made my day. And they are from people I do not know at all. :-) How nice it is to have one's work recognized!
